The Department of Mechanical Engineering comprises eight Chairs (further chairs are about to be established) covering basic principles and special topics of Mechanical Engineering in research and teaching. It offers a modern education in Mechanical Engineering in a wide range of subjects with a strong cooperation between the other Departments of the School of Engineering, the School of Sciences and the School of Business and Economics.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1982 as "Institute for Production Engineering" and now consists of 9 Chairs with about 300 employees focusing on the main fields of manufacturing technology, applied mechanics, manufacturing automation and production systems as well as engineering design, polymer technology, quality management and manufacturing metrology and photonic technology. more
